Day Two – 18-10-10

First something more about day one though! I had the best Chicken kebab ever for dinner ;-). I came home full and went straight for bed. The next day I woke up at around 1:30pm. That was a sleep of around 10 hours, according to my sleepcycle programme. This is an application that i bought back in the UK which measures my sleeping pattern and time. It is that advanced, that i wakes you up at the time its most comfortable time, the time when you naturally wake up.

After the sleep I came out of the room and Liny;s mum directly started to cook me breakfast. She told me that is what is expected from her, that the mum cooks breakfast and all those other jobs. So after my shower the coffee and toast where ready for me to eat so I could start of at a good base. Even the coffee was now adjusted to the way I like it (on the first day it was a bit to strong). However, straight after breakfast we went out for lunch! Didn't know that! otherwise I would have 4 slice of toast and an egg! Anyways, the travel towards the restaurant has been caputered by me, so it will give an impression about the traffic.

Then at the restaurant, the AC was broken so we where eating in a 32 degree restaurant without proper plates! they let us eat from banana leaves! It turned out that it was tradition ;-). It also turns out that the flavour is better when you eat from that! it turned out that it was true! i turned out that the food was amazing! it also turned out that it was a bit spicy and it also turned out that I finally had a proper south indian Dish!

After the main course we where given some little bananas and some beattle leaf with some stuff in it what tasted not so nice, to improve the digestion.

I also forgot to tell you guys something about the traffic. The way it works. In Europe we hardly use the horn, and when you use it, you get a middle finger straight in your face! or people look guilty. But in India, on the back of a lot of vehicles it says, please horn! The way it works here is basically, is that when you drive a side of another person you horn that you are there. This is in my opinion showing that they are to lazy to turn their head around and look. Because i never saw a driver turning his head around. Sometimes he looks in the mirror but thats it. This is contradiction to Europe, we are not allowed to switch lane without checking your shoulder and mirrors. Here, when you see a little gab in front of you on the road where you can drive with you car, you simply sound the horn that you are coming and you hit the peddle and you take youre position. Through all this gab filling, the cars are most of the time 2 cm from each other driving next to each other. Also when you turn on to a big main road where hundreds of cars and bikes are driving, you dont look, left, right, left, right. Instead you just hit the peddle again and drive up the main road. The bikes and cars that are coming break for you and horn ofcoarse to tell that you are there, but no ugly faces just keep youre eyes in front of you on the road, looking for another gap to drive in so you might be 2 seconds quicker. In the end of the day, I can talk about the traffic for ages, but the best thing is just to experience it. Therefore I made a movie of it which will come later. The basic principle I explained I think. What is in a nutshell “Survival of the fittest (smartest) wins” in traffic in India. The smarter you are the quicker you will get to your destination. And if I let my thought go freely about the traffic, I thing that my mum will freak out when she’s has to drive around here. Its always like that, that people have comments on you’re driving when they sit next to you. When my mum is there, as soon as we come a bit close to another car on the motorway or anywhere else, she start panicking! Actually the only persons who are completely fine with my driving are Laura and Liny. Liny is understandable because she is used to it, and Laura… well…. I think she just trusts me :-)

So after the food, we went to the market there you could see how chickens where slaughtered and how a complete cow was hanged up on its leg on a hook. Here some pics of the market place

In the evening we went for a movie i n a very nice and more comfortable cinema I had ever experienced in my life. The Europeans could learn something from this standard ;-). We went to see a Tamil movie. A Tamil movie is a movie that has been made in the language Tamil. That is the language they speak in the state where I am at the moment called Tamil Nadu. You can compare India with Europe in that sense. In Europe we have Holland, Germany, France and all the other EU countries, which all have their own government and language. In India the the countries are called states (like the Americans)  Each state has his own government and language. Also a equivalent of the European Union is present in India which is a central Government of India. So yeah, I couldn't understand a word of what they where saying, but lucky enough for me, I had Liny. She was my personal subtitle machine!

After the movie we went to a place where they serve food that comes from Kerala (another state in India, Ill put up a map after this) Liny’s mum (Shea) went home because she had a headache of the movie. Namely, the average duration is 2.5 hours which was a bit to long for her i suppose. So after we set down in the restaurant, she decided to go home. We ate a beef curry with Appam and Muttappam ( a pancake kind of thing with a baked egg in it)

After that, straight home and off to bed!
